You'll probably find that by now you are able to feed in a much more relaxed way. You should not be experiencing any discomfort and the feeds will probably be shorter as your baby grows and becomes more efficient at breastfeeding.
You know you are getting there when:
• You still listen to all the conflicting advice, but start to trust your own judgement.
• You can latch the baby on without thinking about it.
• You know you can breastfeed discreetly when out and about.
By now you will have decided which feeding methods suit you both. Things may have turned out differently from what you expected. Some mothers don't like the idea of breastfeeding, but then take to it immediately. Others have problems getting started and decide to give up. Some mothers make an informed decision to bottle-feed their baby because it is the method that suits them best.
However, if you feel that you on the wrong path, you may benefit from talking to a breastfeeding counsellor. She will be happy to talk to you if your breastfeeding experience was not a happy one, or if you now want to stop.
